2013 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo

This is the most track-focused Lamborghini Gallardo ever – the new 2013 LP570-4 Super Trofeo. Set to be the star of Lambo’s one-make Gallardo race series next year, it’s coming to a European track near you.
But you’ll likely hear it before you can see it – the new race-spec Gallardo gets some serious race-spec components, including what we imagine are a rather loud set of pipes to dispose of the motor’s waste gases.
Lamborghini has not confirmed if the racer will get an updated version of the current Gallardo LP570-4’s 570hp 5.2-litre V10 engine, although it is thought the multi-cylinder unit will remain, mated to the firm’s e-gear paddle shift transmission.
The biggest changes have come from a “remodelling of the car’s aerodynamic profile”, according to Lamborghini. The Super Trofeo gets an adjustable 10-position rear wing that, along with other aerodynamic devices, helps contribute towards a 120% improvement in aero efficiency over the outgoing 2012 model.
New brake ducts on the 2013 Super Trofeo give 50% better thermal efficiency than before, with better cooling for the front discs and calipers, while Lamborghini say the car is now more balanced.
The car now produces 128kg more downforce in low-drag trim, increasing to 160kg in high-downforce, high-grip guise. This has been achieved by a new design for the car’s wheel arches, rear spoiler and diffuser.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo race series sees drivers competing in identical cars based on the road-going Gallardo LP570-4. The 2012 cup featured six races with 58 competitors, and the 2013 championship is expected to be just as popular.
Lamborghini Research and Development Director and Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, Maurizio Reggiani:
“We have taken a significant step forward with the aerodynamic performance of the new Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo, but still the car stays true to our core principles.
“We believe that it is important to evolve the car, while ensuring Super Trofeo remains an attractive series in which to compete.”
The Italian supercar constructor has not yet revealed the pricing for the 2013 Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo. Now there’s a surprise.
